Nite Ize Marker Band

Return to Equipment Reviews Main Page

I suspect that I am not alone when I say that one of my favorite times to go for a run is at night. Sometimes it is by necessity because of a busy schedule, but more often than not I run at night, just because I enjoy it. In the summer, running at night helps you to avoid the oppressive heat of the mid-day.
I am also probably not alone when I say that my spouse sometimes worries about my safety when I go for a night run. Not a week goes by lately where I don’t have a patient in the ER who was involved in a single car accident because of texting while driving. Now imagine the danger to the runner with all these people on the road.
So, for Christmas this past year, my wife and kids got me a bunch of running gear for safety at night. One of my indispensable items for night runs is the Nite Ize Marker Band. It is a small flexible lightweight arm band that straps onto your bicep. In addition to the inherent reflective property of the band, it is “impregnated” with LED lights that can either stay on or flash continuously. Since I use this light as an attention getter rather than a source of illumination, I always run with it on flashing mode. For those of you who routinely run with an ipod, you are already accustomed to the feel of an arm band while running, so this should be nothing new. The Nite Ize Marker Band is comfortable and unobtrusive. The battery is replaceable and lasts for a long time. It uses a standard CR2032 disc battery, that is common for running accessories, and available at every neighborhood drug store.
