Race Report for the Jail Break 5K

Today was such a wonderful day. I woke up this morning and it was a crystal clear crisp fall morning. The thermometer read 32 but it was predicted to be up to a tolerable 48 by race start time. I’ve been looking forward to today for a few reasons. I have not run at all for 8 days because I’m dealing with a mild case of left achilles tendonitis and this was my test run to see how my recovery is going. My marathon is 2 weeks from today and I didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize being ready on race day. I’m happy to report that all the RICE therapy seems to have done the trick. I ran today without any twinge of discomfort.

I was also excited about today’s race because my 3 year old daughter was signed up to run her first half-miler. She did so well. I’m so proud of my little girl. She did very well. I think we’re ready to up her mileage. : )

The Jail Break 5k is a charity race to raise money for the Greenfield public recreation department and this race’s gimmick is to have three of the officers dress up like crooks, get a head start, and then get chased down by the field.

This was a no pressure fun race for me and I ran it pretty conservatively. My only goal was to “catch the crooks” because that’s what my running coach (McKenna) instructed me to do.
Mission accomplished. We nabbed them shortly before the second mile marker. They passed us on the big hill, but we were able to re-run down one of the three before the race ended.
I finished 35th out of 111 with an OK 22:26.

Here’s a video of today’s exploits. Watch to the end to see some photos of the actual 5K and crooks.
