Today marks the beginning of my 16 week training calendar for the Cape Cod Marathon. Even though today was a scheduled rest day for me, I was beaming. I was in such a good mood all day. I am excited, because it is finally here. For the past few months my training plan has really only consisted of one main goal - don’t get injured. I more or less followed the 10% rule, but I didn’t feel like I was working on a particular goal. I’m happy that I’ve been able to do so many races between April 24th (first day back) and today, and that is something that I plan to continue. For those of you keeping track, you might notice that I’m treating many of my upcoming races as training runs. This will be true for both of the half-marathons that I have scheduled for September. Those are scheduled for my LSD days and I’m hoping that I possess the discipline to treat them that way on race day. I’m also doing a 5K in October on my scheduled 20 mile day. My plan is to park my car 17 miles from the starting line, run to the race, and to hopefully show up for the race about the time that the staring pistol goes off. Obviously, that is not going to be a fast 5K for me.

Anyway, let the fun begin. Wish me luck and cross your fingers that my tibias stay strong.
