So, how did you celebrate National Running Day? I got many tweets about it throughout the day and by noonish it was #2 on the top discussed items of the day. I had to work 3p-3a in the ER today and Aril worked the night before so I woke her up at the last possible moment and snuck out for a quick 4.7 miles before beginning my shift. Because it was National Running Day, I wanted to do something a little new, so I ran a course that I had never run before. It was a little hillier than my usual routes, but the hills were interspersed throughout the course just right so that when you felt a little tired, there was a short downhill to take advantage of. I practiced sticking with my newly tested running stride and was able to keep it up for most of the run. I again noticed that the effort of forcing my torso to tilt forward slightly results in frequently tense shoulders. There was lots of shaking out my arms and shoulders on this run. I also ran with the heart rate monitor again. I swapped out the battery and I coated both electrodes with a little salt water before I left the house. It worked much better this time, but I’m not sure what to make of the data. Max average HR was 180bpm. That seems a little fast to me, but then again I did push it a little bit on the run (4.7 miles in 39:06). I haven’t done any research yet, but I’m going to guess that despite my slightly higher than average effort it should be a little lower than that. The rain gods decided to smile on me with a gentle shower right at the very end of my run. It was enough to cool me down, but not enough to mess up my shoes.
Anyway, how did you celebrate National Running Day?
