Running Season 2009

Triage finally slowed down around 4am, so I sat down with my calendar and plotted out the next part of my 2009 season. Between May and my marathon in October, I have 19 races on the calendar. Everything from 5Ks to 1/2 marathons. It works out like this.

Between now and July 5th (the beginning of my 16-week marathon training plan) I have a couple of 5Ks, and 5- mile X-Country and a 10K scheduled. I’m still holding true to my promise and keeping my weekly mileage low and only gradually building, and I don’t plan to go ALL OUT on most of these races.

Once July 5th comes around, everything is about training for the marathon. The races that are scheduled are only scheduled on planned training days, and I’m going to treat them as such. So, the two 1/2 marathons that I have schedule in late Summer/early Fall coincide with my planned LSD Sunday training runs, and I intend to treat them as such, Long Slow Distance. I don’t want to treat them as races and try to run fast. The other runs I have scheduled are mostly 5Ks and 5-milers, and one run/bike trail race called the Mud Hog Race that I’m doing with some friends from school and work. At NO point will my race distance be greater than my planned training distance and in a few cases, I’ll probably run the race course twice to get in the required training distance scheduled for that day.

I think it’s am ambitous plan, but one that will keep me motivated, on track for the marathon, and within my alotted mileage so that I do get injured again. For those that are interested, I’ll publish a link to my training calendar with updates about how I’m doing.
