Lilacs and Cow Manure

Two things summed up today’s run - Lilacs and Cow Manure. The odd thing is that I like the smell of both. I went out for a solo run and limited myself to the short course. All of the lilac bushes are in full bloom and lately the first farm that I run past is in full gear. Every day that I run by there they are working on something. The dog is getting used to me. The first few times I ran past the farm, he would get up and make a big show of whose territory I was on. If I have the stroller, i make sure to bring a few dog treats, but when I run solo (and pocket-less) I don’t. So now, on the days that I run by with the stroller, he gets up and walks to the street edge waiting for his treat. When I’m by myself, he doesn’t even move off the porch. He’s figured me out that quickly.

With regards to the run itself, I felt good today. I felt stronger on the uphills and I trudged up them without slowing my pace too dramatically. I kept thinking about this one sentence in the marathon book that i am reading right now - “It’s not about who goes out the fastest, it’s about who slows down the least.”
