Went for another short run today and took Aubrey this time. McKenna asked if she could come, but we talked about sharing and taking turns and without missing a beat she said, “OK Dad.” Sometimes she’s so easy. Today was a very hot day (84° F), considering it’s only April. Of course I waited until it was at the hottest part of the day before deciding to go for a run. Actually, that’s not completely true. I went four-wheeling this morning with Joe and Jay and surprisingly got a bit of a workout. So I needed a few hours rest to re-cup.
An unintended benefit of riding this morning was that I found some really great trails for running. Jay uses a portable Garmin and downloads the data onto a Google Earth overlay. So now I’ll have a few miles of trails known to only a few people to run on.
As far as the run itself, let’s just say that I did better than last time. I repeated Friday’s course, but did it 52 seconds faster today. I have a long ways to go before I’m even back to the level I was before the injury. That’s frustrating, but even more so when I consider how much BEYOND that I need to go to reach my goals for THIS year. Make first race of the year is in 6 days. I think I won’t truly know how much damage 13 weeks off did until I run for real. Saturday’s race will tell a lot.
