RACE REPORT

I’m back!!!!!

Today I ran the5th Annual Mayor Higgins Hot Chocolate Run. I promised to take two weeks off completely after my last race so that my injury would have time to heal. It took more discipline than many of you would believe, but I kept my promise and didn’t even sneak out for a single short run. But, as a consequence, I was a little nervous about how my respite would affect my running. I’m happy to report that I literally picked up exactly where I left off, to the second. My lungs felt great, I never really felt short of breath and more importantly, my left leg felt, and continues to feel great. My right ankle is a little tweaked, but I think a smartly dressed tape job should help add some stability and allow me to begin training again.

I asked my friend Justin how he managed to mentally make it through his last injury and he suggested that I take the time to start planning out my next season. So, I did. I have so many races that I am looking forward to right now. My next really fun run is on January 25th in New Hampshire. It is the Innauguration Day 5K/Bye Bye Bush Retirement Party. Talk about a once in a lifetime run (thankfully). I signed up for a 9.3 miler in Raynham the week before that. Probably my biggest news though is that I scheduled my first marathon, but I’ll go into that on another day.

So, enough suspense. I did well today considering the lack of training. I placed 327th out of 1,358 runners. I was 42nd in my age group out of 104. Overall, I finished in the top 25% and for the first time ever, I can rightfully claim that I beat more than 1,000 other people.
