Edaville Rail Run

RACE REPORT

Today was the Edaville Rail Run in South Carver Mass. It’s a flat 5.1-mile cross country course on mostly dirt and/or sandy roads that meanders through Edaville USA and the surrounding cranberry bogs. I have been looking forward to this race for a while now.

I always associate Edaville with my Dad, because when I was a little kid, some of my earliest memories are of my father taking me to Edaville Railroad to ride on the trains and to look at the Christmas decorations and lights in the cranberry bogs.

It was probably for this reason alone that I decided to actually run it. My left leg is still nagging me, but the bigger problem for the last 2 days have been this upper respiratory bug that I have brewing. I awoke on the morning of the run with a fever, a head that weighed 20 pounds, and a chest cold. So what. I joked with my friend Justin (who also ran the race) that there is no better expectorant than 5 miles of running. That being said, my “performance enhancing drugs” included Tylenol, Aleve, Motrin, and 4 squirts of Afrin.

Let’s just say it wasn’t a stellar run for me, but what the he$$, I had fun and it was great to see friends that I get to see too infrequently. For the record, I ran a 40:08 which works out to a 7:52 pace for the 5.1 miles. Out of the 412 entrants, i came in 116th and finished 27th in my age division (top half anyway). I’ll have to redeem myself on my next run.
Anyway, here are some pix from the run day-
