RACE REPORT
I was so nervous about this race. I worked the night before and I did not get ANY sleep. I stayed up late to watch the Red Sox win Game 2 of the ALDS and once I finally went to bed I could not shut my mind down. I took most of the week off from running because of my left leg and I wasn’t sure how it was going to affect me.
On the day of the race I showed up early for the pre-race registration and spent 45 minutes pacing and warming up. When the siren sounded and the race started I headed out with the “fast people pack” and turned in my personal best for the mile since I began training again. In hindsight I probably did the first mile way too fast, because I was feeling it by mile 2.5.
The course itself was beautiful and well marked. I hadn’t realized that part of the course was going to be trail running through the farmers’ fields and along the Connecticut River dikes, but it was a nice surprise. The weather was perfect and the scenery and foliage were beautiful.
So, the results
- I came in 27th overall and 7th in my division. My time was 24:48 and I averaged a 7:59 mile. For my first race in a decade, not too shabby. It is a good starting point and I have A LOT more work to do to get into running shape again. I had a blast doing it and I loved being able to play with my daughters at the finish line. In a few short years, I’ll have McKenna out there with me.

Next race is in 2 weeks. Gotta go train!
